"A fresh an invigorating cross-cultural voice."
THE NATION
Grammy-nominated musician and composer Nathalie Joachim — hailed as “powerful and unpretentious” by The New York Times — is breathing new life into music inspired by her classical training, contemporary music practice and Haitian heritage. Performing with her trio, Joachim brings to Ovations a dynamic live interpretation of her latest recording Ki moun ou ye. Weaving together voice, bass, percussion, textured vocal samples, somber flute tones, and longing melodies, this immersive musical experience examines the richness of one’s voice — an instrument that brings with it DNA, ancestry, and identity. Joachim is co-founder of the critically acclaimed duo Flutronix; recent commissions include new works for St. Louis Symphony, Yale University’s Schwarzman Center, So Percussion, Roomful of Teeth, Imani Winds, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and the Spoleto Festival.
