PROGRAM NOTES
Praised for radiating “the multicolored highlights of a mature pianist” by The Philadelphia Inquirer, pianist Janice Carissa is lauded for playing that
“conveys a vivid story rather than a mere showpiece” (Chicago Classical Review). Born in Indonesia, Carissa began her studies at the age of 5 with her self-taught pianist mother before moving to the U.S. to attend Curtis Institute. Recently named a Gilmore Young Artist and winner of awards at the Salon de Virtuosi and as the American Protégé Star Performer Award, she has also won prizes at the Aspen Music Festival’s Concerto Competition and the Indonesia Pusaka Competition.
