“International festival aims to delight, unite, and inspire” – YALE NEWS
Ovations kicks off the 92nd season with a lively and immersive community dance party. Featuring a high energy live band and guided dance instruction, this unique event invites all to enjoy the spirited Indian Gujarati folk dances of garba and raas. Clapping, spinning and bright colors of garba commemorate wedding celebrations and the vivacious Hindu festival Navratri. Celebrating cultural heritage through ecstatic movement and music — all ages, abilities and backgrounds are invited to join the excitement that’s energized communities across the country from Lincoln Center’s Midsummer Night Swing to Chicago’s Summer Dance to New Haven’s International Festival of Arts and Ideas, and now Portland. Fun for the whole family, those with two left feet and even those who’d rather sit back and watch the fun. Our afternoon together in Deering Oaks Park has two staggered start times. Come and go as you wish to experience the community dance party of the year.
Live music by Kashyap Jani and friends.
No seating is provided at Deering Oaks Park, we welcome you to bring your own chairs and blankets.
The rain date for Garba360 is scheduled for September 18th from 1pm-4pm.
