Commissioned by Ovations, Sacred Fires marks the electrifying return of multi-talented artist and dramatic performer Firefly (AKA Jason Brown) in a bold world premiere performance that expands on the stunning visuals and immersive soundscapes audiences experienced in Wabanaki Stories. A member of the Penobscot Indian Nation — one of the five traditionally allied Wabanaki tribal nations of the Atlantic Northeast — Firefly fuses Wabanaki tradition with cutting-edge technology, blending projection mapping, cinematic videography, traditional vocals, and pulsing electronic music into a mesmerizing theatrical experience. Raised on Panawamskek (Indian Island) in the Penobscot River, Firefly draws from the stories, rhythms, and spirit of his ancestral homeland to create work that is both deeply rooted and thrillingly contemporary. A longtime traditional music keeper for the Wabanaki communities, he brings audiences into a transformative world of sound, light, and movement centered on healing, connection, and collective renewal. Visceral, transporting, and visually unforgettable, Sacred Fires is an immersive journey that pulses with creativity, resilience, and hope.
