Join Indigo Arts Alliance and Portland Ovations in this special opportunity to learn about the creative process of Grammy-nominated Haitian American performer and composer Nathalie Joachim. The Princeton University professor and MoMA Scholar-in-Residence will share insight into how her creative practice fuels action that honors shared histories, collective humanity, and imaginative potential futures.

ABOUT NATHALIE JOACHIM
Hailed as “powerful and unpretentious” by The New York Times, Nathalie Joachim blends classical training, contemporary music practice and Haitian heritage into an exciting new sound and concert experience. Joachim brings to Ovations a dynamic live interpretation of her latest recording Ki moun ou ye – an immersive solo performance, weaving voice, electronics, flute, and text to explore ancestry and identity. Joachim’s creative practice centers storytelling and human connectivity while advocating for social change and cultural awareness. Joachim is co-founder of the critically acclaimed duo Flutronix; recent commissions include new works for St. Louis Symphony, Yale University’s Schwarzman Center, So Percussion, Roomful of Teeth, Imani Winds, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and the Spoleto Festival.
