Accessibility – State Theatre

Portland Ovations welcomes people of all abilities to our performances and programs, both digital and in person. Ovations presents in multiple platforms and in multiple venues in the Greater Portland area, and it is a priority for us that all our events be ADA-compliant. We  all deserve access, and all have different access needs.

Accessibility at State Theatre, Portland

Parking

There is no designated parking at the State Theatre. There is ample street parking in the neighborhood around the venue. Parking meters are in effect from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Sundays and city holidays are free. Nearby parking is available at the SP+ Garage (181 High St next to the Westin Harborview Hotel) and the Spring Street Garage (45 Spring St). 

Patrons can be dropped off at the main entrance to the venue, located at 609 Congress St.

Building Entry

Patrons will enter through the main entrance at street level.  

All bags will be searched. No outside food, beverages, markers, spray paint, weapons (includes pocket knives), or large bags/backpacks. 

Ticketing & Box Office

Daytime PortTIX hours are Monday through Friday from 11AM – 3PM located at 400 Congress Street in Portland.

PortTIX sales will end 24 hours before any performance scheduled at the State Theatre. If tickets do not sell out in advance, they will be sold at the door on the night of the show beginning one hour before doors open. Cash and credit cards accepted.  

Mobile tickets are also issued and can be accessed through your email. The QR code typically cannot be printed, so you MUST bring a mobile phone to the event on which to display the email with the Mobile Tickets for entry. Mobile tickets are sent to your email the day of purchase. To locate them in your inbox search ‘Your Mobile Tickets’, it will come from boxoffice@porttix.com.

Restrooms

Gendered restrooms are located on both the orchestra and balcony levels. One single-stall accessible restroom is located near the entrance to the Women’s Room on the orchestra level. 

Ramps & Elevators

The State Theatre does not have an elevator. Patrons with mobility concerns should contact the PortTIX box office in advance of the performance to ensure any needs are met. This can be done by calling 207.842.0800 or emailing boxoffice@porttix.com 

Assisted Listening

Assistive Listening Devices are not available at this venue. 

Sign Language Interpretation

ASL interpretation will be provided at the following events at The State Theatre in our 2024-25 season.

The interpreter will be located on House Right next to the stage. Patrons requiring this service should contact the PortTIX box office in advance of the performance to ensure their seats are located in the correct section. This can be done by calling 207.842.0800 or emailing boxoffice@porttix.com.

Seating Details

All Portland Ovations performances at The State Theatre will have assigned seats and are fully seated up to the stage. There is no general admission or standing room section for these performances.  

Wheelchair and companion seating is located in Orchestra section 3. Patrons with mobility requests may enter the theater 15 min before the house opens. 

To purchase wheelchair accessible tickets online, look for the wheelchair symbol when selecting seats (shown here). You can buy that location and the one next to it with a star symbol for a companion (please note there will be no chair in the “Wheelchair Seat” location).  If you wish to inquire about other possible options, please call our box office for assistance. 

Service Animals

Service animals are always welcome. They are required to remain on a leash or harness at all times. We recommend speaking with the Box Office in advance about the best seating options for you and your service animal. 

Concessions

The State Theatre has a full bar, with water and soft drinks along with a wide selection of both tap and bottle beers, wine and spirits. Pizza from Portland Pie Company, popcorn from Little Lads and other snacks will be available for purchase.
