On October 2, Ovations is hosting a special free community event at our office space! Audiences are invited to join us at 400 Congress Street during October’s First Friday Art Walk for an exciting program that merges performance, technology, and Access for something wholly unique.
territory is an 11-minute Virtual Reality (VR) film from NYC-based disability arts ensemble Kinetic Light. Mixed ability dancers and choreographers used motion capture technology to create an immersive reimagining of the company’s stage piece, “Wired,” that audiences of all abilities can experience in 360 degrees. Set in a post-apocalyptic landscape of borders and barriers, the piece blends sci-fi, cosmic imagery, and aerial dance to explore themes of flight, darkness, partnership, and utopia.
In alignment with Kinetic Light’s approach to equitable access, territory incorporates creative captioning, multi-track audio descriptions, and haptic (vibrational) feedback so audiences can feel the movement, light, and sound. There will be ASL interpreters onsite for the evening.
Reservations will open on September 1 for individual, 20-minute slots from 5:00-8:00 PM during the First Friday Art Walk, and the experience is Pay-What-You-Decide. Guests not participating in the VR experience are invited to hang in our lobby area, where we will be serving up some of Orange Bike Brewing Company’s best, along with wine and non-alcoholic options.
