Portland Ovations is honored to announce new Board leadership, including Rachael Alfond, President and Jack Lufkin, Vice President.
“I am deeply honored to step into the role of board president for Portland Ovations,” says Alfond. “I support this organization because its commitment to the arts fosters the wellbeing of our broader community, building a healthier and more unified world. By bringing us together, live performance serves as a powerful catalyst for healthy dialogue and deep emotional connection. In the upcoming term, I am excited to support our team in forging new pathways and exploring the future of the performing arts to uplift all voices.”
Alfond has served on Ovations’ board since 2019 and steps into the President role after serving as Vice President during the 2025-2026 season, succeeding Sayad Moudachirou who served as President from 2024-2026. Rachael Alfond’s roots run deep, having been cultivated on a sustainably managed tree farm in central Maine by her back-to-the-land parents. Raised amidst a rich tapestry of culture, practices, performances, and traditions, Rachael’s journey into the arts began in Bangor where she honed her skills with professional theater companies. Beyond the stage, Rachael wears many hats—a yoga and movement teacher, a nature enthusiast, often found hiking or volunteering for nonprofits, and a devoted parent and partner. Lufkin has been on Ovations’ board since 2020. As the guiding force at Machias Savings Bank, he leads a team of commercial and retail bankers from Belfast to Bethel, and Augusta to Kittery, addressing the diverse needs of businesses and communities. A Maine native and UMaine graduate, Jack has called Portland home for over 25 years and is deeply involved in the community. Returning board leadership includes Connor Smart as Treasurer, and Mary Wellehan as Secretary.
“For 96 years, Ovations has been strengthened by the dedication, vision, and generosity of extraordinary community leaders,” says Aimeé M. Petrin, Portland Ovations Executive & Artistic Director. “We celebrate the leadership of Sayad Moudachirou, who recently completed a remarkable three-year term as Board Chair. During his tenure, Sayad guided Ovations with wisdom, compassion, and unwavering steadiness. His thoughtful leadership, quiet strength, and grace have inspired both the board and staff, helping position the organization for a strong future. We are deeply grateful for his service as Board Chair and delighted he will continue contributing his many skills and time as a member of the Board of Directors.
“After nearly 20 years on the Board of Directors, Michael A. Boyson concludes his board service and assumes the role of Board Emeritus,” says Petrin. “Throughout his tenure—including his time as Board Chair—Boyson’s leadership has helped Ovations build upon its mission, reach as many people as possible and bring artists from around the globe to Maine, while also supporting our first national tour of a Maine artist. His unwavering belief in the transformative power of live performance, his commitment to international communities, and his passion for creating meaningful arts experiences for young people have impacted Ovations in countless ways. Just as memorable is his joy, generosity, and willingness to lend a hand whenever needed. His presence will be deeply missed.”
