“Kinky Boots” Community Drive

Did you know that Kinky Boots was inspired by a true story?  In the 1990’s, Steve Pateman inherited W.J. Brooks Ltd, a struggling shoe factory that had been in his family for four generations and went on to completely reinvent their customer base—and community—by making fabulous footwear that was functional for all.

We are anticipating a very successful run of performances here in Portland on March 4-5, 2026. Ovations is aiming to leverage that opportunity to gather items most needed by members of our own community, with each performance of Kinky Boots including a footwear-focused collection effort for our friends at Maine Needs.

COLLECTION DETAILS

We are working with Maine Needs to collect new or gently used:

  • Winter boots
  • Hiking boots
  • Rain boots
  • Sneakers
  • Socks (new only)

We are accepting items for kids and adults—all sizes welcome! Please no formal footwear.

If you are attending a performance of Kinky Boots, staff will be stationed inside the lobby at a collection table. You will be able to drop your items off once you have passed through security at the entrance.

If you’re not attending the performances but still want to contribute, Ovations will be accepting collections at our offices (120 Exchange St, Portland) right across the street from City Hall. Drop-off is available March 2-5, 2026 between 10 AM – 4 PM.
