Why did you want to work at Ovations?
“I was interested in fundraising, so a Development Associate position was a great start. I used to be a former dancer, so the arts have always been very important to me. I thought this role would be a good combination of my love for the arts, and my skills in fundraising. I had seen a couple performances at Ovation’s prior and I was excited to join the arts community.”
Our School-Time Performance program started in 2009, why is this program so important to Ovations?
“It’s such a life-changing experience for these kids who may have never been to a live performance before and may never will again. When I was a child myself, I was fortunate that my mother brought me to everything. So, I had that exposure to the arts at a young age. It’s important that young people feel comfortable at the theater. Seeing the kids respond with the excitement and the enthusiasm to these live performances, it’s just very heartwarming. I just know these are memories they will cherish.”
You’ve seen nearly a 1,000 different performances with Ovations. What are some of your favorites?
“Definitely Yo-Yo Ma. He is the nicest man ever and he is very humble. I like to see that in a performer. I also loved when Mandy Patinkin was here. He performed a solo version of “Bohemian Rhapsody,” I literally jumped out of my seat to cheer for him when he was done. As did 90% of the theater. It was a very powerful standing ovation. There are too many things to highlight, but I really love the variety of genre’s we present. There is truly something for everyone.”
Why is live performance important to you?
“When you’re in a theater with people enjoying the same experience, that connectivity with everybody as you enjoy something at the same time together it is just priceless. It gives me an energy and rejuvenates me. I think trying to be present in the moment, stepping away from screens, and connecting with people is even more important now. It’s really easy to appreciate the talent you are seeing.”
