Portland Ovations is honored to welcome Lynn Teo and Mary Wellehan to the Board of Directors.
“Lynn and Mary’s long-term support and commitment to Maine communities’ well-being connects well with Ovations mission to propel economic wellbeing of communities through the power of performing art,” said Sayad Moudachirou, President of the Ovations Board. “We look forward to working with Mary and Lynn and benefiting from their leadership.”
Lynn Teo (she/they) is a dedicated acupuncturist, somatic educator and meditation teacher with over 25 years of experience, focusing on supporting helpers, healers, artists, activists, and people of color through embodied practices of healing, radical rest, resilience, and trauma recovery. A published scientific researcher in complementary medicine, Lynn combines academic rigor with a deep commitment to holistic well-being. Trained as an actor at York University in Toronto, Lynn has performed in various productions in Canada and, more recently, in “The Last Girl” by dee Clarke (October 2022), co-commissioned by Portland Ovations. She is passionate about community, storytelling, and fostering a sense of belonging.
Mary Wellehan (she/her) is an artist and educator with 24 years of experience teaching middle school art in both Seattle and Maine. Throughout her career, she has taken on various leadership roles at the departmental and district levels, helping to shape arts education. Mary holds a degree in Theatre Arts from Holy Cross, where her focus on set and lighting design led to a lifelong passion for sharing the arts. Growing up surrounded by musicals, plays, and symphonies, along with afternoons spent in dance classes, she developed a deep sense of self and creative expression. Now, Mary channels that passion into creating ceramics, crafting both decorative and functional pieces in porcelain. Her artistic journey is deeply rooted in her commitment to making a positive impact through the arts.
“Ovations is fortunate to add two more skilled and compassionate board members to our roster of community leaders,” says Aimée M. Petrin, Portland Ovations Executive & Artistic Director. “Lynn and Mary share with fellow board members and Ovations staff an unwavering commitment to Ovations’ mission and belief in the power of live performance to positively impact our communities and inspire a more just society.”
Lynn and Mary join 20 additional Ovations board members, each community leaders and organizers who are committed to the power of live performance to bring people together and support the wellbeing of communities.
