Program Notes for Jerusalem Quartet by Aimée M. Petrin

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the first performance of Portland Ovations’ 93rd season. You are amongst those experiencing a very special program in a very special space.

From the artistry and historical significance of the program to the joyful partnerships and collaborations to moving out into the community to bring music to new and unexpected venues – today’s presentation of Jerusalem Quartet is emblematic of Ovations past, present and future.

As you know, for decades Ovations has brought the finest in classical music to Maine. Today we maintain that commitment, experiencing it through new eyes, ears and sounds. Today’s program, both the musical one and the richer context that surrounds us all, represents Ovations present and future: the continued expansion of our “classical” series into one that embraces contemporary composers from all backgrounds, robust partnerships that help to anchor our artists from away here in Maine, and dynamic Ovations Offstage programs that enhance cultural knowledge and further build connections.

Thank you for choosing to spend your afternoon with us. We extend our gratitude to our very welcoming partners at the Maine Jewish Museum; our hostess with the mostess, Dawn LaRochelle; and scholar Tom Wolf, a friend of Ovations’ and classical music with deep connections to Maine.

We look forward to seeing you all season long.

Aimée M. Petrin
