Program Notes for “Rosie Revere, Engineer & Friends” by Sarah Coleman

Dear Friends,

We are so thrilled to be back at Merrill Auditorium with a performance for young audiences!

What a great way to return – with the clever, curious, and imaginative characters of Rosie Revere, Ada Twist, and Iggy Peck based on Andrea Beaty and David Roberts’ books. These stories are playful and poignant. They honor young people as great thinkers, learners, and doers from toddlerhood.

I was thrilled to learn of this production, especially as it’s written by one of the most produced playwrights in the American Theater today – Lauren Gunderson. I quickly added it to our 2020 – 2021 season back in February of 2020, and am thrilled that it’s finally made its way to Maine two years later.

This energetic musical reminds us that learning to trust ourselves and hold true to our unique characteristics, skills, and passions makes the world around us a better place. Rosie rises up stronger from failure, just like we all strive to. Together Rosie, Ada and Iggy learn that problem-solving is best done in collaboration and when we make space for everyone to shine.

We’ve missed having the youngest of theater goers and their adults in the audience. Thanks for being here.
