Simon Shaheen : Offstage Activities

Local oud player Amos Libby explores the oud (fretless Middle Eastern lute), the central instrument in much of Arabic music and other musical traditions within the Middle East and Northern Africa. Libby spotlights the oud’s ability to produce the microtonal musical intervals unique to Arabic and Middle Eastern music, and introduces the audience to the concept of tarab, a codified concept of transformative and ecstatic states experienced by performers and audiences of Arabic music.
