The Handel and Haydn Society exemplifies an esteemed tradition of innovation and excellence, which began in the 19th century with the American premieres of Handel’s Messiah. Looking forward to its Bicentennial in 2015, the Society is the oldest continuously performing arts organization in the U.S. The ensemble, based in Boston, is internationally recognized for its revelatory style that uses the instruments and techniques of the composer’s time. Their Portland Ovations concert features 15 musicians, including director and harpsichordist Ian Watson, in a program of works by J.S. Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, Henry Purcell, William Boyce, and Charles Avison.
