Merrill Auditorium, Portland, MaineGlorious, powerful, intelligent – Dayton Contemporary Dance Company (DCDC) is dance that energizes, inspires, and feeds the soul. DCDC will perform four works during the March 20th presentation. The first is entitled J Lawrence Paint (Harriet Tubman Remix) by choreographer Donald Byrd. Byrd is also the choreographer of the 2005 Broadway production of The Color Purple. The second, entitled Vespers, is by the late Ulysses Dove, former principle dancer for Alvin Ailey. The third work entitled Rainbow 'Round My Shoulder is by choreographer Donald McKayle. McKayle is a four-time Tony Award nominee for best choreography for such Broadway productions as Sophisticated Ladies and Doctor Jazz. The fourth, Children of the Passage is by Donald McKayle and Ronald K. Brown. Brown is the founder and artistic director of Evidence Dance Company. DCDC recently marked its 40th anniversary performing the world’s largest repertoire of works by African-American choreographers.
