Glorious, powerful, intelligent – Dayton Contemporary Dance Company (DCDC) is dance that energizes, inspires, and feeds the soul. DCDC presents the work of three of the most creative geniuses in American dancemaking, drawn from the company’s participation in the Kennedy Center’s festival Masters of African-American Choreography: Donald McKayle’s masterwork Rainbow ‘Round My Shoulder, about a group of men on a prison chain gang; Tony-nominated choreographer Donald Byrd’s JLawrence Paint (Harriet Tubman Remix), inspired by the paintings of Jacob Lawrence; and hip-hopinflected dancemaker Rennie Harris’s Jacob’s Ladder, also informed by a Lawrence painting. DCDC recently marked its 40th anniversary performing the world’s largest repertoire of works by African-American choreographers.
