“Silent Surrealism”

Hannaford Hall, USM, Portland, MaineKnown the world over, The Hot Club of San Francisco plays the gypsy jazz music of guitarist Django Reinhardt — celebrating the 100th anniversary of his birth — and violinist Stephane Grappelli and the original Hot Club de France. Imagine seeing silent films like It’s a Bird, Now You Tell One, The Fall of the House of Usher and The Land Beyond the Sunset projected on the side of a barn in the French countryside while traveling musicians match every scene with characteristic virtuosity. Reviving this lost tradition Silent Surrealism transports the audience to all-but-forgotten realms of fancy and imagination.
